I have a tendency to look at too much art work from other illustrators and get discouraged at my own process and progress. I know in my heart I can and will be a successful artist (what is success? Being able to work from home, doing a job I love, creating editorial pieces, children’s book illustrations, and anything else creative) but at the same time fear is always peering over my shoulder.

I’m a big fan of artists such as Christoph Niemann, Noma Bar, Luba Lukova, Josh Cochran, Frank Stockton, James Jean, Egon Schiele, etc. The problem is, I look at their work, and wonder “How in the hell I’m going to get noticed?” I realize that it takes time and patience, yet it’s difficult not to have self-doubt. I have the utmost confidence that I can do the job, and I know I have the concepts to get it done.

I’m not so much as looking to get any sympathy or anything, it’s just something I need to get off my chest. Persistence, determination and hard work will get me to where I want to be. But at times, I just wish it would’ve happened yesterday.

Thanks for listening/reading!

Hey man, thanks for the props.

As far as getting noticed goes, the way there is to make pictures of and about whatever it is you LOVE and then strive to improve improve improve.

Best of luck to you on your journey.

A great Chinese philosopher once said that the road to success will take at least twice as long if you only keep one eye on the task/lesson at hand while the other's already fixed on your destination point. Gotta keep both eyes on what you're doing right now and if you do that, the end result will be there waiting. Thats the life Im living and the philosophy I adhere to. Will I get noticed or paid? Probably not, but Im a writer and I take that unshakeable belief with me wherever I go. As Miles davis said, P.R. is 98% of being an artist.

Sigh, I feel the same way all the time. Nice to know someone else feels exactly the same. It's good to know you have faith in yourself and your abilities. We can only keep trying, when we stop trying is when we fail.

I like what Lodo Grdzak had to say.
